**expect miracles (the story behind the bracelet)
his wife is in a coma. they have that new baby. the miracle baby. he's only 4 months old. and she was feeding him when she got the headache so bad she had to go lay down. he had to help her to the bedroom. then the convulsions started. and wouldn't stop. the ambulance came and took her. the doctors don't know. she is in a coma. yes, 4 months old. blended family. there's a 5 year old too. other two girls are in college. she is the glue that brings them all together. he is literally lost. she is his rock. the love of his life. they just don't know what is wrong.
a client stands patiently as the information is fed in small bursts to the person on the line then reciprocal apologies are exchanged after the conversation ends. for the wait and for the inadvertent eavesdropping.
i had a good friend who battled a catonic coma for years. her husband stood by her side. we all rallied around her. and someone got these bracelets to pass around to each of us. we wore them as a sign of love, belief and solidarity. the bracelet is handed over and its simple message brings tears as its passed across the desk to its owner. who refuses to take it back. oh no. i think you should keep it. and pass it along to someone who needs it. perhaps your friend and his wife. perhaps someone else. it helped me. helped me support and lose my friend. a smile. a turn. elevator doors close. this client didn't see anyone but me. as if she just came to tell her story. and inspire. and pass along her token of hope.
"expect miracles"
pass it on.
